Checklist: preparing a month-long chalet stay (don't forget anything)

Monthly chalet rentals require more prep than a weekend. Complete checklist based on 12+ family stays.

4 weeks before

  • Signed contract, deposit paid
  • Owner contact saved in emergency contacts
  • Exact address saved (GPS + offline)
  • Fishing permit if applicable
  • HR notified for remote work outside if required
  • Mail forwarding via Canada Post if expecting important mail

2 weeks before

Home security: trusted person with keys, light timers, thermostat low (10-12°C winter), main water valve off if absent 3+ weeks, fridge cleared, mail/papers paused, pet sitter, plant watering.

Remote work: test chalet Wi-Fi specs, backup 5G hotspot, long Ethernet cable, extra chargers per room.

1 week before

Clothes: pack for 2 possible seasons (Laurentian summer evenings can be 12°C). 10 days underwear + socks (laundry at chalet), 7 tops, 4 bottoms, swimsuits (summer + winter for spa), sport gear, hat+mittens+scarf even in fall.

Food: nearest grocery list printed (cell signal weak in some rangs), week 1 meal plan, favorite spices/condiments, coffee + grinder.

Day before

Bags organized, phones 100% charged, offline maps, water bottle, snacks, credit card + cash, good night's sleep.

Day 1 at chalet

Check-in on time (most 3 PM), tour with owner (Wi-Fi, thermostat, spa, dock), pre-existing damage notes, test everything, week 1 groceries that evening, send arrival photos to owner.

  2. USB-C / Lightning adapters

  4. Headphones for video calls
